Finals are almost here, which means tis the season of stress. The pressure of tests in college can be a bit overwhelming to say the least. However, I have learned a few tricks and tips over the years to decrease stress levels.
- Reduce Anxiety
Anxiousness and nervousness can be very damaging not only mentally but physically. Many times we are anxious and aren’t aware of it because we have become so comfortable with it. Knowing there is a test in the near future, we eagerly want to know what the questions are, how to study, what the answers are and the final grade. To relieve this pressure, take a moment to breath. Be aware. And pray. Remember what you expect the outcome to be. #degree
- Be creative
Sometimes taking a break from studying is needed. It can help re-center your focus. Try buying a coloring book and colors. They usually cost $1-$2. Take a break and color a picture while listening to some of your favorite tunes. If you don’t want to spend your needed pennies, engage in doodling. Doodle whatever you want, whatever is on your mind. Even better, doodle your notes. If you are studying a variety of law cases. Draw pictures that represents each case law.
- Essential Oils
This is something I wish I would have known in college. Essential oils act as a natural healing agent. The strong scent will release triggers in your brain for different effects. A great stress reliever is Lavender Oil. Try putting a teensy weensy dab on your wrists. Every time you feel overwhelmed or stress take a sniff of your wrists. Take a few deep breaths and calm down. Another great essential oil is Peppermint Oil. Peppermint Oil is a natural energizer and also promotes concentration and alertness. Take a shot at rubbing Peppermint Oil unto your temples and a little bit underneath your nose.
- Enjoy Yourself
College is mostly academics but also fun! Look for events at your institution and make an attempt to go there and enjoy yourself. Events at my school varied from movie night at the football field to carnival themed game night. Try not to get so consumed into your finals but be at ease. Relax a little bit more because finals will be over soon and a much needed break is waiting for you at the end of the tunnel!
